What government grants are available for air source heat pumps?
From October 2023, the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives homeowners in England and Wales a £7,500 grant towards the cost of a heat pump.
For homeowners in Scotland, The Home Energy Scotland grant gives £7,500 towards the cost of an air source heat pump – plus a potential £1,500 extra if you live in a rural area.

How long do air source heat pumps last?
You can expect an air source heat pump to last for 20 years or more. Because they’re based on a relatively simple and reliable technology, heat pumps don’t need a lot of maintenance – although an annual service is recommended.
Do air source heat pumps work in very cold weather?
Yes. Air source heat pumps work effectively even when outside temperatures are -15°C, although they are a bit more energy efficient at warmer temperatures.

- To be eligible for the grant, a valid, non-expired Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) with no recommendations for cavity wall or loft insulation is required. In March 2022, the government announced a removal of VAT on domestic energy-saving measures, including heat pumps. This will last for five years from 1st April 2022. In September 2023, the government increased the grant available to homeowners in England and Wales installing an air source heat pump from 31/10/2023 to £7,500.
